People's Park Centre★☆☆☆☆
📝 Trip report

Very disappointing Mee Siam experience at Killiney at People's Park Centre. I paid $6.80 for this dish, but what I received looked completely different from the advertised photo. I understand that menu pictures are for illustration only, but the actual food should still reasonably resemble what is shown. The advertised Mee Siam looked bright, fresh and appetising, with orange-red gravy and neatly arranged ingredients. The actual dish came with unusually thick, dark-brown gravy and looked messy and unappetising—almost like leftover food. Unfortunately, I could not finish it. When I approached the staff about the dish, they ignored me. Only after I spoke to the cashier did I receive a response, but she repeatedly told me that the photo was “for illustration only.” This did not properly address my concern about the significant difference between the advertised dish and what I was served. For example, if a hotel advertises a bright, clean and modern room but gives you a dark, untidy room that looks completely different when you arrive, would you accept “the photo is for illustration only” as an adequate explanation? I hope Killiney will improve not only the quality and presentation of this dish, but also its customer service. The restaurant should use a more accurate picture so customers know what they are ordering. This was my first order from this company, and it will also be my last.

📝 Trip report

People's Park Centre is a fascinating destination that offers a raw and authentic glimpse into Singapore’s local life. Located right in the heart of Chinatown, this mixed-use complex is a stark, nostalgic contrast to the sleek, ultra-modern malls found along Orchard Road. As a visitor, the experience here is like stepping into a time capsule. The building is famous for its eclectic mix of shops. You can find everything from traditional Chinese handicrafts, textiles, and antique jewelry to affordable massage parlors and travel agencies. It is particularly well-known among locals for its extensive range of haberdashery and craft supplies, making it a hidden gem if you are looking for unique souvenirs or DIY materials. One of the biggest draws is the food. The basement and surrounding areas are packed with local eateries and stalls serving authentic dishes at very reasonable prices. It’s a great place to escape the tourist crowds and enjoy a genuine Singaporean meal. Tips for Visitors: • Accessibility: It is incredibly convenient to reach, with a direct link to the Chinatown MRT Station (DT19/NE4). • Atmosphere: The interior can feel a bit dated and labyrinthine, but that is part of its old-school charm. • Nearby Landmarks: It is situated right next to the iconic People's Park Complex and within walking distance of the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple. If you want to see a side of Singapore that remains deeply rooted in tradition and daily community commerce, People's Park Centre is definitely worth a visit. It’s not just a shopping trip; it’s a cultural experience.
