Bangkok is the stronger choice for variety and a trip that mixes nightlife with a major city; Pattaya is easier when you want dense nightlife districts and fewer cross-city transfers. A short Thailand visit should rarely add Pattaya only to “save money”: hotel changes and intercity travel can erase the difference. Choose the city that improves the whole itinerary, not the cheapest isolated drink.

Pattaya can reduce nightly transport when your accommodation matches your preferred district. Walking Street anchors the south, Soi 6 sits farther north along the central strip, and LK Metro connects naturally with the Buakhao area.

The honest budget is trip-wide
Compare accommodation, transfers, local transport, food and nightlife in one sheet. Use the same number of nights and the same comfort level. A Pattaya plan should include both directions of the Bangkok–Pattaya transfer; a Bangkok plan should include late road rides after rail service.
